Knockout sport and gala days
Statewide Combined High Schools (CHS) Knockout Competitions
Knockout sport involves our students competing against other schools either at our home ground or theirs. If the school wins, we continue to the next game; if we lose, we are out of the competition, hence the term ‘knockout sport’.
Each year West Wallsend High School enters teams into the main draws of various CHS knockout competitions. The nature of the sports is based on recent school history and current student interest and participation. We have a proud history of participation in many of these competitions and with our passionate and dedicated coaches, we look forward to continued participation and success in the future.
The list of knockout sports we have entered in 2024 can be seen below. Students interested in participating in knockout teams are encouraged to complete the online nomination forms and attend the appropriate trials.

Gala days and other competitions
In addition to CHS knockout competitions, we also enter other competitions and gala days which increases opportunities for students of all ages to represent our school.

Team selection policy
- If a player cannot make the trials then their position in the team cannot be guaranteed.
- Upon selecting the team, considerations will be given to performance at the trials, previous playing experience for the school, outside school experience and performance in PE lessons or lunchtime activities.
- Students may not be considered for selection in the team if their behaviour patterns at school are inappropriate and this behaviour is supported by Sentral documentation.
